| Gelett Burgess, poet and humorist (1866-1951), penned this often quoted quatrain shown above around the end of the nineteenth century. In the 1950's the poem inspired Andy Anderson of the Brayton Laguna Pottery Company to create the above bovine family. One art form has inspired another with humor the focal point in both. Our udder filled mama cow is 8" long and 5½" tall. And Baby calf, no doubt with his eye on dinner, is 5½" long and 4" tall. Papa is about 6" by 11" including left horn. A tiny ding on the ear of the calf has been professionally and invisibly restored. Ditto for Papa whose horn was hurt when his testaterone level was challenged by a competitor. But not to worry. Our in house vet cured all. Mama cow is perfect. To see other California Pottery CLICK HERE! | |
